¶ Ping Test
A ping test can be used to test the stability of an internet connection.
¶ Steps
- Minimise any server connections you’re currently using so you’re back to you local machines desktop
- Open Command Prompt by going to start and searching ‘Command prompt’. Alternatively you can Press The Start key + R to open the Run window and type ‘cmd’ and hit enter.
- Once Command Prompt is open type “ping zimbra.secure-iss.com -t” (no quotations) and hit enter. Please see the screen shot below of what it should look like.
- Once you hit enter the Ping test will start. You should see a new line each second displaying information about the packet that was sent. Please see the screenshot below of 7 packets (7 seconds).

If you want to keep an eye on your internet for a prolonged period of time for exmaple if you’re having interminant issues you can leave the ping test running while you continue to work (restarting it every few hours). Alternatively, if you’re having issues currently a few minutes of it running will be enough.

Once you’re ready to stop the test press ‘CTRL + C’ and it will give you the results of the test. The example below you can see 7 packets were sent, 7 received and 0 lost. The min, max and average numbers are also very low. (lower the better)
- If you’re having issues with your internet connection you will see either the pack loss sitting at 1-2%+ over a period of time or your average ping time will be 100-150ms+ (higher the number the worse your latency is)
¶ Solution
Typical fixes for high latency and packet loss are to restart your local Model/router assuming this will not distrupt any other business functions. If that is not sucessful please feel free to contact Secure-ISS to see if we can assist.
